The challenging mountain hike near Grindelwald offers a varied nature experience. The hike leads through a fairytale forest, over an alp with waterfalls, past several well-known and lesser-known lakes, through a lunar landscape and offers views of surrounding 3000m and 4000m peaks.

The four lakes hike starts in Grindelwald and leads first over the First to the Bachalpsee with its small pre-lake. Then it continues behind the mountain range to the Hagelseeli. Over scree terrain it continues past Häxeseeli to Wart, the highest point of the hike at 2705 m above sea level. Afterwards the descent to Grosse Scheidegg and back to Grindelwald begins.
The hike is a challenging mountain hike with about five hours of stony ground. Good hiking boots are a must. If you prefer a somewhat shorter route, you can take the cable car up to the First and start the hike there, thus saving about 1000 meters in altitude, but also missing a worthwhile part of this fantastically beautiful hike. If the hike is too difficult for you, you can take the local bus to Waldspitz and hike directly to Bachalpsee at Alp Bachläger and then to First.
